The theme of the work is Jesus' bond with three women named Mary, specifically Mary the mother, Mary of Magdala, better known as Mary Magdalene, one of the few to have been able to witness the Crucifixion, and Mary of Bethany, who lived in the village of the same name near Jerusalem.
There are 4 lithodigitals dedicated to them, of which 3 portray the women individually in the company of Jesus and one, the first of the collection, portrays them all together. After each image there is a dedication to the woman protagonist: for his mother Mary was chosen one of Dante, taken from Paradise, while for Mary of Bethany and Mary of Magdala three from the Gospel of John.
