This magnificent code contains 12 treatises, including an extraordinarily interesting text, which transmits to the reader the organizational structure of the Roman empire through the hierarchically ordered mention of all the offices designated to carry out the functions of government in the name of the emperor, as representatives of the authority. This is the meaning of the abbreviated expression “Notitia Dignitatum”.
