It was 1604 when Francisco de Quevedo, with El Buscón, perfectly constructed the picaresque genre and, with it, a work of pure verbal genius according to some critics or of sharp social criticism, according to others. Without doubt, due to circumstances unknown to us, the text of the Madrid genius was not given in print until 1626.
Among the peculiarities of the novel, emerge the brilliance of the plot and content, inspired by the student’s young student experiences, grotesque taste, caricatures of the characters, the deep and intense sarcastic note, the dry and detached style, embellished by a long series of double meanings.
Particular of the manuscript is the page written freehand placed on the last page in which the same admits his mistakes and regrets having committed many errors in life.
