Liber Astrologicus

Liber Astrologicus, also known as De Rerum Natura or Liber Rotarum, is a singular work. Dedicated to the pious and learned King Sisebuto (612-620) by San Isidoro, it is a treatise of natural science divided into three fundamental parts:
the first eight chapters deal with the chronology (the days, the week, the months, the seasons, …);
the following chapters, from the ninth to the twentieth centuries, deal with the cosmos and the various stars (the world, the sky, the planets, the sun, the moon, the stars, …);
the last part dedicates her to the study of atmospheric phenomena and earthquakes (thunder, rainbow, winds, earthquakes, …).
Before this work there is no trace of a real scientific treatise, however it is not easy to realize the specific objective set by the author, even if one can guess the will to offer to the clerics and scholars of the monastic schools a treatise on the natural sciences easy to understand, always starting from the principle that the sciences should serve as a starting point for drawing up a good theology, suitable for understanding the Holy Scriptures.
The book also contains seven illustrations, almost all in the shape of a circle, to clarify some aspects of the exhibition.

The original copy of the eleventh century is kept in the Episcopal de Vic Library (Vic, Spain).
