Forster Codex

The Forster Code consists of 3 three volumes of different sizes, which deal with different arguments; the only thing in common between them is the property exercised by John Forster: English critic, literary and writer, who lived in the first half of 1800. Currently the collection is kept in London at the Victoria and Albert Museum (London).

Forster I it's divided into two parts, which deal with different themes: the first manuscript, dated end of ‘400, deals with the theme of steriometry, the transformation from one body to another without the variation of matter, of geometry (flat and solid) with particular attention to the pyramid; the second part deals with topics related to hydraulics, which refer to the studies conducted in the Milanese period.

Forster II it's is divided into two parts inside, reversed one with respect to the other for a binding error occurred in the seventeenth century. The first manuscript refers to his architectural studies, the realization of abstract figures and mathematical studies; the second part is a sort of exercise book, referring to the physics studies conducted by Leonardo.

Forster III is a real notebook for annotating notes. It is composed of 94 very small papers, which deal with the most disparate subjects: recipes, moral sentences, fables, the reproduction of the plan of the Milan cathedral and drawings with different subjects. The notebook that contains the notes of the Grand Master is dated 1493-1496.
